Sunday, Feb. 3rd - Game two was AMAZING!!! It didn't start so well, with Pietrangelo's squad not hitting as well as WI, but they quickly responded with a nice 3 ender to take an early 3-2 match! The tide of the game really turned after the MI boys took 1 in the sixth, then went on to have two steals, both of which were well played by the boys. It seemed as though they were easily going to take it, up 8-5 going into the ninth, but Delaney and squad had a shot for 3, but luckily the shooter rolled out and only took 2. The boys were up one, with hammer going into the 10th, and Pietrangelo didn't have to even throw his last rock, as the front end and Richard had the boys one shot stone in the 4, with plenty of cover!! Tomorrow morning is Illinois with Kyle taking this game off, and with Rob playing lead, and Jon playing second!
Dave P. I'll be quick, due to the Superbowl! The team lost a tight one this morning to Washington. The lineup in this game was the 4 Detroit boys. After taking a 3, the boys were up 4-1 after 3. Sadly, the home team took 2, then stole another. Things really fell apart after the sixth end, when the team should have taken two, but settled for just one, to make it a 5-5 game. WA then took 3 in the 7th, and the Detroit boys then had to make up a lot of ground on Dave's shots, and sadly just hit too thick on their double try to sit behind cover, and the shooter rolled out, then they missed the draw for 1, and shook after 8 being down 11-5. The team is in good spirits, and the lineup for tonights game, against 2-0 and the #2 seed Wisconsin is going to be Kyle playing lead, with Jon playing second, Richard will be third, and Dave still the skip. - Dave P. Saturday, Feb. 2nd - And the team is still alive!!! Our boys were workin hard at the club, be it socializing or just curling their butts off, all day long!! The team first met last night after Rob and Kyle showed up around 10:00; and went to bed around 12:00 local time, which was brutal, since everyone is normally EST. The team was all awake by around 11, and had a little meeting in Steve and Richards room around 11:30. Practice time was 1:00, so they headed to Granite, excited for the first time on the ice!!! Practice was standard; 15 minutes on an sheet, in a rotating fashion. After practice, the boys did some mad socializing at the club, meeting many new people, and even made some new fans!!! The opening ceremony was very cool, as the team was proud to represent the coolest flag of any state at the tournament!! After that, was dinner at the club, which the team spent with Washington ladies at a circle table. After dinner, more socializing went down, because dinner finished around 6:00 and Minnesota didn't begin practice until 7:00. The boys took the ice promptly at 7:10 - with the lineup being Dave, Richard, Rob and Kyle, with Jon sitting out because he was unable to practice at 1 for religious reasons. And let the games begin!!! The first end started with a nice guard by Kyle, and after a few quick shots Minn. was sitting nicely, 1 and 2, with our boys being three. Richard picked up nicely, but Aanders Brorson, Minn. vice, was just as punishing. Sadly to say, the end result of the end was a 3 pointer for Minn., but that came only after Dave threw a nice stone, and Rob and Kyle, not being used to sweeping under Richards command, didn't sweep until it was too late. It just ticked a guard and rolled throw the house, instead of the nice double that was set up to roll under cover! Plys then made the draw for 3, and the games were underway!! Similarly to the first end, the second was set up nicely, until Dave just ticked the guard again on a hit that was going to leave MI sitting 2. Again, Minn. took 1. The tide seemed to turn after MI was down 4-0, with the boys making an open hit in the 3rd, for one. 4-1. Pietrangelo and boys then set a beauty, with all four boys shooting lights out, actually stole against the #1 seed, to make it 4-2!! Minn. took 1 in the fifth, when our boys had a split house, with each stone in the 8 foot, they were light, but with amazing sweeping, just got a biter on the 4 foot. 5-2. Team Michigan was very excited at this point, going into the break. After the break, the game going nicely, until Aanders made an amazing triple, when the boys had 2 in the house, under cover! The team recovered nicely, and were sitting 2, but set up barely for thee double, but Plys came up with a nice shot, to push the second stone just to being 3rd shot. Dave then hit for 1. Now its 5-3. In the seventh, Minnesota again showed they were a solid team, dispite MI playing their best, taking 1 to make it 6-3. Our boys then got into a little hole in the 8th, and Dave's last shot forced them into a timeout! The shot called was a draw for 1 against 2, but the decision was made to try the lower percentage double, because they desperatly needed the 3 they would have gotten if they made it. Sadly, it missed wide, and Minnesota took 2 to make it 8-3. The boys battled super hard, and took 2 in the 9th, although had Dave's last hit stuck around, it would have been 3. Final score after getting run out of rocks: 8-5. This was HUGE!!! The team is at such a high, after battling so tough against such a great team, it was an awesome feeling for the guys!!! After the game as well, the boys were given signs from the ND ladies team, who seem to be a big fan of the MI team! Tomorrow at noon PST the boys take on the hometown team, skipped by Chris Pleasents! Look for another update tomorrow either after that match, or the second match of the day!!! Dave P. Feb. 1st. Hello from Seattle!!! Bright and early today, two members from Detroit, Jon Schwartz and Dave Pietrangelo, along with coach Steve Scheffler, met up with the alternate, Richard Smith III for the first time ever!!! Steve was the only one that knew Richard before hand! Dave was first to meet Richard, without Steve around and quickly broke the ice by telling him he needed to use the restroom, rather than wait for Steve at Security, because he's had so many Coney Dogs the last few days and his Stomach was not doing so well!!! Anyway, around 9:15 the team boarded the flight and was scheduled for 9:30, but sadly was delayed at least 40 minutes due to a problem with the restroom water on the plane, which was not good for Dave who already had expirenced the Coney Dogs once this morning! Needless to say, the four of them made it to Seattle around noon local time - where they split, because Jon and his mother and youngest sister had their own car, while Richard, Steve and Dave grabbed their own very hip minivan!! Once the team got to their minivan - they realized they had no idea how to get to the hotel, so they had to call, which worked out well because they couldn't check in until 3:00 anyway!! So off went Steve, Richard and Dave to dinner at a local Bar and Grill, where they enjoyed some very tasty Clam Chowder soup, a few orders of Fish 'n Chips, and some nachos. The rest of their team is probably boarding their flight now (Rob and Kyle) and the team that is in Seattle, is anxiously awaiting those boys!!! In a little over an hour, Richard, Dave and Steve are going to head over to the Granite Curling Club, and watch some other teams do their practice thing!!! Continue to check this update on the website, as it will be updated at least once a day, if not once per draw!!! Also, feel free to get updated scores of each game, per end. (which Team Pietrangelo plays tomorrow at 7:30 local time, versus Joel Cooper and the rest of the Plys team) http://www.juniornationals.us/index.php and also feel free to email the team michigan_men@juniornationals.us !!! Until next time, Dave Pietrangelo! | by David Pietrangelo

DCC Member:
As you may know the Board of Directors has approved a new league sign up process for the 2006-2007 curling season. This new process includes criteria for determining who has priority to a spot in the league when it becomes full or overfull. Basically, returning teams/individuals will get 1st priority to reclaim their spot. A team is considered returning if 2 or more people plan to return (if a team splits in 1/2, then the 1/2 with the most senior member retains the spot). An individual is considered returning if they curled in 2/3 of the league dates last year. After returning teams have claimed their spot, any open slots will be awarded based on club seniority. The timing for the new process which begins today, is as follows:
Please send a note to Greg Jorgensen at gjorgen2@ford.com Or if you have questions, call me at (313) 515-9337Good Curling!! Greg
